Jon Reiver
Jon Reiver is a self-taught wood worker living outside Crossville, TN. He has been selling his wood turnings, carvings and furniture for several years. He started working with wood after retiring from the US Navy.
Jon Reiver was raised in upstate New York, living in the woods several miles outside of a tiny town of less then 100 people. He attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where he majored in Physics. Emerging from the dark, windowless laboratory one spring, he decided that he didn’t want to be stuck in a Lab for the rest of his life, so he joined the Navy’s Nuclear Power Program and spent 24 years stuck in a dark, windowless submarine. He did get to see the world, rose to be second-in-command of a nuclear submarine and retired with the rank of Commander.
Deciding this time he definitely did not want to be stuck in a dark, windowless environment for the rest of his life, he decided to be a gentleman farmer and bought a farm in the middle of Tennessee where he resides with his wife, dog, cat, goats, horses and burros. He definitely enjoys the pastoral view of his rolling farm land and animals from his many windows.
Jon built his own house and workshop. He keeps very busy with managing his farm and enjoying the animals; riding his horses with his wife; and his hobbies of wood turning, carving and building furniture. He has participated in several arts and crafts shows including being the featured artist and has items in art galleries and museums.
Jon is a member of the American Association of Wood Turners, The Cumberland Wood Turners and The Cumberland Wood Carvers.
